Biographical Sketch:
He was the son of Asher Lane who was born in Steuben County, NY and died 10/14/1873 in Berrien County, MI. He came to Michigan in 1856. During the Civil War, John enlisted in Company G, 6th Wisconsin Infantry, and was severely wounded at the Battle of Antietam, on account of which he was discharged. He re-enlisted in Company B, 6th Michigan Heavy Artillery in January 1864, and served as color bearer until the close of the war when he went to Benton Harbor, MI and remained 14 years. He purchased a farm in Saint Joseph Township, Berrien County and grew fruit.

Notable Facts:
Death certificate says the place of burial/removal was Royalton Hts. Find-a-Grave says Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Find-a-Grave gives death year as 1929, certificate says 1926. Died of apoplexy.
