Of Irish descent. Son of Daniel & Melissa (Dexter) McCarthy. Admitted to the bar, 1884. Lived in Oscoda Co., 1889-96; moved to Standish, 1896. Served as township clerk for Pine River and as circuit court commissioner. He was prosecuting attorney for 4 years nd a member of the board of examiners for 6. Became prosecuting attorney for Arenac Co., 1898. Held offices in the Michigan State Bar Assoc.
