Biographical Sketch:
Son of Peter S. Harriet (Fitzgerald) Monroe. He came to Ontonagon, MI, in 1880 as principal of schools, until 1886, when he moved to Ironwood. While in Ontonagon, he served as secretary of the county board of school examiners for 5 years, was a clerk of Ontonagon township and, fo 12 years, was assessor of the village. He was admitted to the bar in 1886. He served as township clerk, assessor, secretary of board of school examiners, commissioner of schools, circuit court commissioner, superintendent of poor at Gogebic for 12 years, and city attorney and assessor of Ironwood. Member of the Masons.
