Biographical Sketch:
Son of Daniel and Esther (Welsh) Oviatt. He did religious tent work with the 7th Day Adventists. Returned to New York to preach; elected township assessor several times while in New York; became president of the Pennsylvania Conference & Tract Society for several yrs. He had a change of understanding & left the Adventists. Moved to Hastings, MI, 1887, & became a pastor in a Baptist church for 4 yrs. Moved to Laramie, WY for a time; did missionary work on the Pacific coast. Returned to Michigan, 1897, engaging in publishing the Alden Wave. Served as Helena Township supervisor in Antrim County [5 years] and justice of the peace [7 years]. Involved in the real estate business and fruit farming.
