Biographical Sketch:
Orphaned at 10 in Emerson Township, Gratiot Co., MI; did farm labor until age 15. At 15, he entered a printing office, and with the exception of 4 years service as postmaster at Ithaca, continued in that field. In March, 1881, he, for some time connected with the Gratiot
Journal as an employee, bought the Alma Index and soon thereafter changed
its name to The Gratiot County Record. He also had an interest in the St. Louis Leader, which he also sold in January, 1881. In December, 1881, he sold the paper.
At the time of his death, he was a prison guard at the Michigan State Prison.
