Biographical Sketch:
Son of George W. and Margaret (Widener) Richards. Of German descent. Came to North Branch, Lapeer Co., MI, 1864. Worked in the lumber industry before becoming an investor and real estate dealer. Moved to Cheboygan Co., March 1880. 1st postmaster of Wolverine (which he had named and helped plat), serving for 6 years. Worked for the J.L. & S. Railroad and the Guelph Patent Cask Co. Estimated lumber value for several years for J.A. Haak & Sons and others. For an income , he has built new roads , bridges , looked lands , scaled logs , lumbered for self and others , was trespass agent of the J. L. & S. R. R. Co. several years, while dealing in real estate. He served as county road commissioner of Cheboygan County 2 terms; has been a member of the Wolverine school board 12 years, and director of its graded schools the past 8 years. Member of the Knights of Pythias; Woodman of the World; Knights of Pythias and a Gleaner.

Notable Facts:
A strong temperance supporter. 1st moderator of the Wolverine school district.
