Son of George & Margaret (Widner) Richards. O f German descent. Came to North Branch, Lapeer Co., MI, 1864. Worked iin the lumber industry before becoming an investor and real estate dealer. Moved to Cheboygan Co., March 1880. 1st postmaster of Wolverine (which he had named and helped plat). Worked for the J.L. & S. Railroad and the Guelph Patent Cask Co. Estimted lumber value for several years for J.A. Haak & Sons and others.

Notable Facts:
A strong temperance supporter. 1st moderator of the Wolverine school district. Member of the Knights of Pythias; Woodman of the World; a Gleaner.
