Son of Michael and Clarissa Ann (Littelle) Vandercook.He moved to Grand Rapids in 1891 and established the Grand Rapids Monument Company. He was its president and half owner. Admitted to the bar in 1895. He served as a volunteer fireman for 9 years. He moved to California between 1920 and 1930.
