Biographical Sketch:
Fifth child of Rev. John and Sally (Cook) Cannon. Enlisted in the army 9/1862 at 18 as a private in Co. B, 22nd Michigan Volunteer Infantry. Honorably discharged 6/1865 & returned to Macomb Co to farm for 3 yrs. Moved to the village of Washington, MI and became a merchant. Moved to Evart, MI, 1871 and continued in business. Supervisor of Osceola twp for 18 yrs.; 4 years an Evart councilman, served as a member of the Board of Education of Evart and held other local offices. Maintained a farm while conducting business in Evart. Member of the Masons; the Ancient Order of Foresters; Grand Army of the Republic [GAR]

Notable Facts:
Served in both chambers, the state House & Senate. Find-a-Grave gives death date as 3/6/1925; US Veterans Gravesites says 3/6/1923 Newspaper notice says he died in Evart, MI, as does his death certificate. There is mixed information regarding the cemetery in the death certificate.
