Biographical Sketch:
Son of Charles and ? (Parlmyow?). He moved to Michigan as a young man and operated a flour mill in Clare. In about 1865 he moved to Detroit and worked as a railroad contractor. Enlisted in 50th NY Engineer Corps, 9/2/1864. Promoted to Full Corporal, 10/4/1864. Enlisted in Company C, 188th Infantry Regiment New York, 10/4/1864. Mustered out 7/1/1865 in Washington, DC. Participated in capture of Richmond, 4/1865. Moved to Genesee County, 1867-69. Operated mill in Virginia, 1869-70. Moved to Detroit, 1879. He worked as a deed clerk in the county treasurer's office under his son George.
Notable Facts:
Invented Waldo combined road builder. Parents were abolitionists. Advocate of women's suffrage.
