Biographical Sketch:
Of Pennsylvania Dutch descent. After his mother's death, the family was dispersed and Robert lived on a farm in Canada until he was 19. Came to Michigan in 1863 and worked in the mills and lumber woods for 4 years. . Settled on a farm near Georgetown Township in 1867. He served as township treasurer 4 years; supervisor 7 years; vice president and chairman of the board of directors of the Kent, Allegan and Ottawa counties Farmers' Mutual Fire Insurance company. He represented his county before the board of equalization.
