Biographical Sketch:
Eldest son of George O. and Margaret C.(Miller) Adams of NY and OH respectively. The family moved to Monroe County around 1872, then to Elwell, Gratiot County around 1878. At the age of 17, he taught school one term, at the close of which he entered the employ of Hopkins and Lyon at Mt. Pleasant, as fire insurance and abstract clerk, where he continued for 4 years, before going into business for himself. In 1888, he chose law for his profession; prevented by circumstances from entering an office or college he pursued the course alone and in 1894 passed his examination before Judge Grove of the Kent County bar and began practicing law. He served as justice of the peace.
Notable Facts:
Delegate to Michigan state constitutional convention 16th District, 1907-08. Distant relative of Pres. John and John Q. Adams; 1st justice of the peace in Mt. Pleasant, MI; once moved 365 bills thru in 110 minutes. Tried in 1902 for accepting a bribe to assist legislation favoring a publisher.
