He enlisted in Co. G , 189th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, at the age of 16 and served in Tennessee and Alabama until the close of the war. He moved to Monroe, MI in 1876. 18 months later he moved to Gratiot County to farm and make bricks. He served as supervisor and school trustee.
