Biographical Sketch:
Of Scottish ancestry. The son of John and Flavia J. (Hollenbeck) Lockerby, he came to Michigan in 1869 with his parents, locating on a farm in Branch County. He attended school winters and worked on the farm summers until twenty-three years of age, when he entered the law office of Hon. Milo D. Campbell, at Quincy. He studied law until 1884, when he was admitted to the bar and practiced law in Quincy. He held various township and county offices: school inspector, township clerk, member of the Branch County Board of School Examiners, Circuit Court Commissioner. In 1885 he was appointed by Gov. Rich a member of the Railroad and Street Crossing Board, and held the office of secretary four years. An active member in the Masonic and Grange societies.
