Biographical Sketch:
Son of Patrick and Catherine (Byern) Mulvey. Emigrated to Westchester County, NY, 1852. He took various jobs as he worked his way west. Located in Marquette County, 1854 or 1855, first working on the docks in Marquette and then as a coaler in the Marquette furnaces. He lost all of his savings when a Detroit bank he was using failed and he returned to Marquette in 1857 rather going to California. He worked in the mines for a time and then became a contractor and made successful real estate investments in Marquette county. Served as township clerk; township supervisor; common council member; city assessor, school trustee; village president of Negaunee [3 times]; and mayor of Negaunee (1886). He was president of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in 1880 and organized several divisions of the Order in Michigan, including in Detroit.

Notable Facts:
Death certificate lists day of birth as 1/16/1832; Men of Progress gives birth year as 1835; 1887 Manual says 2/20/1833. He changed parties in 1884.
