Son of Albee and Harriet (Matteson) Brown. He taught for 5 years before attending law school. Admitted to the bar in 1887 and commenced the practice of law at Imlay City and continued to live there until elected prosecuting attorney in 1892 when he moved to Lapeer. He served 2 terms as prosecuting attorney before returning to private practice. Member of Order of the Eastern Star and the Independent Order of Foresters
