Biographical Sketch:
Son of George Pickering and Emily (Stmson) Glazier. President of Glazier Stove Company. After completing business college, he returned to Chelsea and purchased a drug store, which he operated until 1890. he then manufactured oil stoves, that burned coal oil. In 1902, he became president of the Chelsea Savings Bank. In 1893, he was elected village president for 5 years. Elected state treasurer in 1904. Founded the Ann Arbor News. He built the Glazier Building which, after his downfall, became known as the First National bank Bldg and gave Chelsea a home for the aged in honor of his mother, calling it the Emily Glazier Home.
Notable Facts:
Michigan state treasurer, 1905-08; resigned 1922. Forced to resign as state treasurer; convicted of embezzlement; served 2 yrs in prison; pardoned.
Died at his summer home at Cavanaugh Lake on New Year's Day, per news item; death certificate says Jan. 2.
