Biographical Sketch:
Son of Seth Crittenden & Emma R. (Linnel) Moffat. His family moved to Northport, MI in 1868. He moved to Traverse City from Northport, 1874. After leaving school at 18, he worked in a bank, Hannah, Lay and Co. and then the National Bank of Grand Rapids, for 5 yrs. He returned to Traverse City in 1888. After his father's death, he purchased the abstract books of Grand Traverse Co. & went into business. Elected Register of Deeds, 1898. 1900 & 1902. Attended a Congregational church but was not a member. He served as township and village treasurer , member of board of education and register of deeds. Member of the Masons.
