Biographical Sketch:
Son of George Ashley and Ellen Matilda Noble. He emigrated to Sarnia, Ontario at the age of 9 with his father's family where he learned printing trade at the Sarnia Observer. He arrived in Detroit 1880 and worked as a printer. Elected alderman of the tenth ward in Detroit in 1895 and was president pro tem of the common council in 1897; member of the board of supervisors of Wayne County 1896-98. He was a member of several fraternal societies, including the Masons, Knights of Pythias and Modern Woodmen of America and worked for the Modern Maccabees. He was an organizer of fraternal societies.

Notable Facts:
Key figure in Civil Service bill vetoed in 1905. Chair of the Labor and of the Western State Normal School committees. According to Senate Resolution No. 56. p. 1376, 1917 Senate Journal he died in Boston, Mass. on April 17, 1917 as a result of an operation.
