Son of John & Jane (Thomson) Caldwell who were born in Ireland. Moved to Michigan at age 6; raised in Litchfield Twp. Went to work in the woods of Tuscola Co. in 1868. Moved to Missaukee Co., Nov. 1869. He and his brother helped to organized the county. He served as highway commissioner, town clerk, township treasurer, justice of the peace, county treasurer 4 years , and supervisor 10 years. Member of the Grange; Patrons of Husbandry.
