Of German ancestry. Son of Phillip and Elizabeth Eikhoff. At the age of 18 years be began the trade of metal polisher. He was an ardent worker in the union labor organizations, being one of the organizers of "The Metal Polishers' International Union of America." He was a member of the national executive board for 4 years, and became president of said national organization. He was 1 of the 2 members of the house who were recognized as labor union men.
