Member of a corps of civil engineers, 1853-55. Appointed assistant postmaster of Danville, PA, 1855. Located to Philadelphia as telegrapher, 1856-58. Located to Schoolcraft Township, Kalamazoo County, 1858. Enlisted in 5th Michigan Cavalry, 8/1862. Transferred to 25th Michigan Infantry as hospital steward, 9/11/1862. Promoted to 2nd lieutenant, 11/1/1864, and assistant surgeon, 1/1/1865. Entered pharmacy business in Schoolcraft after Civil War. Member, Michigan House of Representatives Kalamazoo County 2nd District, 1893-96.
