Biographical Sketch:
Emigrated to the US in 1869. Worked Great Lakes vessels as a wheelsman and clerk. later taught school, managed a general store and studied medicine for a time before studying law privately. He was admitted to the bar and began practicing in Detroit in 1872. Moved to Grand Rapids in 1876.
