Biographical Sketch:
2nd son of Gerhardus [or Gexadus] & Grada (Aalderink) Garvelink. Emigrated with about 200 others to found what is now Holland City, 1847. His parents died when he was 16. Located to a farm in Fillmore Township, Allegan County in 1849. Supervisor of his twp 20 yrs.; school director 47 yrs and held various other township offices.

Notable Facts:
Served in both chambers. His death certificate uses John as his first name.
