Son of Abram and Lorinda [or Lucinda] (Canfield) Wheeler. Located in Illinois, 1857. Hired as newsboy on Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad, 1859. Promoted to baggage master, 1863, and conductor, 1865. Located in Manistee to co-organize Canfield East Shore Wrecking and Tug Line, 1866. President of Manistee Manufacturing Company until destroyed by fire, 1889. Served as first superintendenet of harbor improvements for Manistee river and harbor. Served as alderman and U.S. Marshal, Western District of Michigan, appointed 2/16/1897. Member of the Masons.
