Biographical Sketch:
Son of Isaac and Amanda Latimer. At age 18, he worked as a civil engineer for the Ontario and Auburn Railroad and on the Erie Canal. At 22, he, worked for the Newaygo Lumber Co., staying for about 6 years [1859-65], first in Chicago and then in Newaygo, MI. He moved to New York for a time before returning to Michigan, settling in Big Rapids where he became a merchant for 3 years. He was also a mail-route agent on the Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad for 4 years. Served as Deputy U.S. Collector of Revenue, Mecosta County treasurer for 3 terms, township treasurer; postmaster of Newaygo; city treasurer and mayor of Big Rapids. Member, Michigan Republican State Central Committee, 1876. Auditor General of Michigan, 1879-81, 1881-83. Member of the Masons, Knights of Pythias. He moved to Oregon.
