Biographical Sketch:
Son of Henry Carr and Mae Eva (Hazleschwardt) Varnum. He taught in Manistique, MI. He was elected city councilman and served as mayor pro-tem and on the board of supervisors. After leaving the legislature he was city manager for Manistique until 1988. He advocated for mental health while in the legislature.

Notable Facts:
Near the end of his term he was involved in a controversy and arrested for soliciting. He donated his remains to the Cleveland Clinic foundation. Memorial service held at Church of the Redeemer Presbyterian in Manistique 3/3/1999. US Veterans Gravesites 1775-2006 says he is in Faiview Cemetery, Manistique. Received a heart and bone marrow transplant the year before his death [the 1st at the Cleveland Clinic and the 2nd in the US].
