Biographical Sketch:
Born in 1932, Docherty served as a Marine for 13 months in Korea. He was a residential building contractor from 1962-69 and then became the owner-operator of Docherty's Hardware in Port Huron. He was the building inspector, zoning officer and ordinance enforcement officer for Fort Gratiot County from 1979-82. From 1960-62, Docherty served on the Planning commision for Kimball Township and from 1962-66, he served as Trustee of Kimball Township. From 1968-76, Docherty was on the St. Clair County Board of Commissioners,serving as both its vice chairman and then chairman in those years. From 1977-80, he was the chairman of the St. Clair County Board of Auditors. In 1982-84, Docherty was elected to the Michigan State House of Representatives for the 76th District. He was re-elected in 1986. A Democrat, Docherty was also a member of the American Legion and the Lions Clubs.
