Biographical Sketch:
Of Irish ancestry. Located in Muskegon, 1879. Bookkeeper in his home town and later, for Dennis Smith & Co. [dry goods], a large mercantile in Muskegon, 1881-89. He was briefly a reporter for the Muskegon newspaper. He purchased an interest in Simmons & Kinne, the Muskegon Planing Mill & Box Manufactory, 1885-89. In 1889, he briefly entered a wholesale lumber business as W.D.Kelly & Co., before dealing in real estate and insurance.. First secretary of Muskegon Chamber of Commerce, starting 1892. He owned a hotel in Colfax, IA in association with his brother. Member of the Maccabees.
