Biographical Sketch:
He taught at Hazel Park Schools in the 1940s and became assistant principal at 27, deputy superintendent at 33 and then superintendent (1958-77) at 36. After leaving the superintendent's office he worked as a K-12 Education Consultant with the Michigan State Senate Fiscal Committee. He was named to the Michigan Education Hall of Fame in 1985. He founded the Youth Aid Foundation in Hazel Park. He helped create one of the first youth assistance programs, aimed at cutting down on juvenile crime, in 1953. He received the Silver Beaver Award for his work with the Boy Scouts. He was a board member and chair of the Oakland County General Health Systems and the St. John’s Health System. He was a member of Michigan Association of School Administrators & the American Association of School Administrators; Phi Delta Kappa, the Lions Club to name a few.
Notable Facts:
He sponsored the legislation that outlawed abuse of the elderly.
Inducted into the Michigan Education Hall of Fame in 1985.
