Biographical Sketch:
Son of Julia Catherman and Russell Hollister. He taught government, history and economics at Durand High School and Lansing Eastern, 1967-70; was a volunteer teacher in Mississippi Freedom Schools in Holly Springs in 1966 and 1968. He served on the Ingham County Board of Commissioners; as mayor of Lansing, 1993 and 1997-2003. In 2003, he headed the Michigan Dept. of Labor and Economic Growth. He brought minor league baseball to Lansing. served as president and CEO of the Prima Civitas Foundation, promoting economic growth across Mid-Michigan.
Notable Facts:
received many awards from various associations and agencies.
His efforts made Lansing the first city to ever turnaround a GM closure decision. Lansing city Hall was named for him. Diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2000.
